I wasn’t impressed when my girlfriend told me she had booked us a holiday in Mykonos. I had heard it was the gay capital of the Aegean and hugely expensive. It did not sound the kind of place that I would have chosen for a holiday. I was wrong. I guess a lot of gay people go there because it is so beautiful and there is a tolerant, laid-back lifestyle. Those same qualities attract lots of visitors of every age, nationality and social group. We had a great holiday, met loads of nice people, ate good food and generally enjoyed ourselves.
Our Mykonos hotel was comfortable, the staffs were friendly, and the location was beautiful. Best of all, though, was the price. Considering this island is known to cater for the wealthy, I was surprised by how reasonably priced so many things were. We met some backpackers on the island who had found accommodation at a hotel on Paradise Beach for €10 per person, per night. We went to their hotel for a few drinks one night and I was amazed by how comfortable and spacious the place was. Check out the internet and you can find Mykonos hotels at bargain prices. If you have a bit more money to spend, then the choice on offer is fantastic.
The quality and variety of restaurants here is second to none.
There is a wonderful atmosphere on this island. People are friendly. The bars and clubs are fun. Everyone is out to have a good time. It turns out my girlfriend knew what she was doing after all.
