A neighborhood block party can take on an assortment of diverse purposes, each of which contributes to the growth of a group of neighbors. Depending on the circumstances, a block party can function purely as a means to draw the community together in a family-friendly environment or as a time of celebration or to raise awareness and support for a particular need. Whatever the situation, the entire neighborhood can benefit from the initiative taken by one individual or family who decides to start plans for a neighborhood gathering.
Managing a neighborhood block party does not have to be an extensively time-consuming or expensive endeavor. You can make the event as simple as you like or you can pull all your efforts and throw a giant bash. Once you've decided to make plans for a neighborhood party, you'll find the rest of the process most straightforwardly accomplished by gathering a bigger group of neighbors who are interested in helping to organize the event. After you've formed a team of coordinators, you should have one or more meetings in which you will solidify a date, activities, entertainment, food and any other basics pertaining to the particular function of your block party. Make certain to send out invitations to every family so that everyone feels welcome and able to plan in advance for the event.
The menu you plan for this friendly gathering does not have to be anything which will require a large amount of exertion on the part of any person. When everyone gives just a little, the food can go a long way. Every family could supply a dish in the style of a potluck or everyone could bring their own meats and vegetables for barbecues together in a common space. If you plan on doing a potluck, send a signup sheet around the neighborhood so that you won't have too many repetitive dishes. If you're organizing the party for a particular cause, you may try to feature foods that will promote awareness of the cause.
There's always the issue of money and this can be handled in several ways. Depending on the neighborhood, each invitee may contribute money to the block party committee for food, drinks, and other expenses. In certain instances, only the organizers foot the bill for the party.
Whatever definite plans you come up with for the event, you must not forget to plan for cleaning up when the event is concluded. Whether the responsibility is allotted to a small crew or to all participants, decide how the cleaning will be organized when the block party is over. In case of rain or some other unexpected hindrance to the original plan, you'll likely want to create an alternative plan to move the festivities to another time or a different location. If everyone works together to plan well in advance, your neighborhood block party will be a sure winner.
