Tennis ATP

The top players Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer won their first two matches in consecutive sets respectively to advance to the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open.

Rafael Nadal faced Karol Beck and it only took him two sets to win the match with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. The Slovakian looked very aggressive on his intends to come back into the top 100 players but Nadal took advantage of the mistakes he committed on Wednesday. We also have to mention, that the weather was did not help either at since the temperature was very low and cool.

"It's good if you are winning by this score against a tough opponent: I am pleased that I am playing well and pleased to be in the quarter-finals," Nadal stated. "It's warmer today (Wednesday), which is better for the body and better for the tennis and better for everyone."

Nadal also explained that his lost against Andy Murray last Sunday in an exhibition final and very close game in Abu Dhabi helped him to get back to his rhythm, since he has been out practice for quiet some time now. He also stated that he needed more games to get back into competition and that a game like that help him remember the good things and bad things that can happen in tennis. Nadal has to face the French Gael Monfils who is looking to get into the top ten this year. Monfils is very fast and his style of game is very talented and competitive.

On the other hand, Federer has also won in the tournament. He beat the Italian Andreas Seppi who is ranked No34, he did it in two sets and took him a little more time than Nadal, but he did in two sets, 6-3 and 6-3 at the end. Federer stated that he was very satisfied currently with his level and his game, as he is feeling that he is coming back to a good patch.

Federer is just one Grand Slam away from the all-time record of 14 Grand Slams imposed by Pete Sampras. At the present, Federer has won 13 Grand Slams, 14 ATP Master Series, plus many other ATP Tour titles and he is planning to win as much titles as he can this year. Last year was not one of his best years, since he could not defend many of his titles points. Nevertheless, this season he is planning to recover from last year’s experiences and become again the No 1 of the world.

For the quarter finals Federer will have to face the German player Philipp Kohlschreiber, who had a very good season last year and who is trying to be among the top players of the ATP as well this season.

If Federer gets to the semifinals, he may have a difficult match since he will have to face Andy Murray, his rival in several tournaments of last year and who has beaten him in some occasions. Even so, Federer has stated that as years go by the players that he has faced have improved tremendously, but he is also very confident in his experience and his good skills as a professional player. We hope the best for these two favorite tennis players.
