Steve McClaren is in a job again

It seems that Steve McClaren thinks that building his managerial
reputation abroad is the best way to go. The former England manager
has taken over the helm at Dutch side FC Twente, signing a two-year-deal.
McClaren was never going to get a job in the Premier League after the
disaster of failing to qualify for the European Championships with England
and has been accused by many of 'ruining the summer'. I would certainly
bet on Euro 2008 being a lot more enjoyable if England were taking part.
I guess that McClaren's thinking is that he should build his reputation up again
by having success in Holland and then maybe a Premier League side will
take a gamble on him - although in all honesty, I think he has a lot to prove
as a manager. At any level.
Even at Middlesbrough, I don't think he did that good a job. He had lots of
money to spend and despite a Uefa Cup final appearance - his side never made
an impact on the Premier League. No football bets were being placed on
Middlesbrough finishing in the top ten - that is for sure.
Previous to that McClaren was Alex Ferguson's number two at Manchester United.
This position suited him much more in my opinion. He is a natural assisstant. It is
maybe because of the fact he was at Old Trafford as a number two that has helped
him get the jobs he has so far in his career.
One thing that seems certain is that the FC Twente fans are not happy with the a
appointment. After all, would you be happy if a failed Dutch manager took over
at your club that had just qualified for the Champions League? I don't think so.
